Project Title: Implementing Assembly Bill (AB) 2085: Guidance for Mandated Reporters in Los Angeles County
Role: Research, SME, technical scripting, eLearning development, final product
Context: The client was tasked with creating an asynchronous training to supplement all mandated reporter trainings within Los Angeles County. The supplemental training would inform the learner about the passage of the California State Assembly Bill 2085 (AB 2085) and the resulting changes to their mandated reporting duties in response to the legislation.
Target Audience: Los Angeles County Mandated Reporters, including medical professionals, law enforcement, educators, child care providers, social workers, mental health professionals, etc.
Solution: The course allows learners to navigate through an overview of the legislation; guidance on implementing AB 2085 via concrete strategies to make more accurate, consistent, and equitable decisions about reporting general neglect; and supported learners in gaining insight re: approaches to supporting families in need when a report to the Child Protection Hotline is not required by law. The course reinforces content taught by the client during their live training sessions and is presented in a way where the learner can navigate the course independently. Accompanying handouts were developed to support learning.

“The scenarios, the interactive questions, the decision tree, the length of the training, the extra resources. This is an excellent training, if not one of the best trainings.”
—
“Wow was this concise, to the point and very useful for helping with plans for reporting, linking to services, and examining biases. I am going to incorporate many things from this training into my daily clinical decision making.”
—
“All the steps were clearly explained, the strategies, the material was clear, the handouts are very helpful, and the examples. This was an excellent training.“
—
“As a person who struggles with my attention span, I really appreciated how details were clear and concise, and were broken down in short sections, videos, and steps were broken down. I also appreciated the thoughtful consideration of all the visual aids that illustrated the steps and decision making process to address the vignette. I love having examples to help me apply the theoretical concept into concrete steps.”
—
“It is straightforward, but there are many tools that help me understand the information in many ways. I also like how the videos are spaced out and each section does not interfere with each other and confuse me.”
—
“The format was great and innovative; the summary and cases were appropriate and relatable; easy to follow.”
